The Great Southern Storm achieves its aim of elite development through 5 clearly identified programs:
Elite Football Skills & Development
Training in essential football skills using current best practice for talented players.
Offering remedial training when identified.
Rehearsing all players in modern football elementary tactics to equip them for elite representation.
Representative Game Opportunities
Ensure that players from the Great Southern have regular opportunity to play in inter-regional carnivals and can compete confidently and competently at the highest level in the GSFL.
Using the Great Southern Storm metropolitan network to create pathways for Storm players to play at WAFL level.
Providing opportunity for players to represent the Great Southern Storm in state-level games.
Providing opportunity to represent the Great Southern Storm in interstate games.
Physical Preparation
Providing a running program in line with AFL practice to improve aerobic and anaerobic endurance.
Introducing players to sprint techniques and speed practice drills to help them to meet the demands of the modern game.
Life Skills
Instructing players in the health and safety requirements for elite footballers.
Introducing players to mental preparation practices to train them in the self-direction needed for elite sportspeople.
Using all training sessions in any Storm Program to highlight the social skills needed to be a successful person in team sports.
Providing all players with the opportunity to develop leadership skills which emphasise: respecting all others, recognising their needs and helping them to achieve those needs.
Providing players with the information which will help them to move successfully to the highest level they are capable of as talented players.
Coach Development
Recruit, develop & mentor coaches.
Attracting potential coaches, mentoring them and assisting them to become accredited.
